How to Exfoliate Before Self Tanner for a Smoother, Even Glow
A beautiful self-tan begins before the color.
Self-tanner develops most evenly when applied to skin that feels smooth, clean, and free of patches of old color. When dry skin collects around the elbows, knees, ankles, and wrists, those areas can absorb self-tanner differently, creating the uneven finish everyone is trying to avoid.
That is why exfoliation is one of the most important steps in self-tan prep. But it does not require an aggressive scrub or another nylon exfoliating mitt.
When should you exfoliate before self-tanning?
For most self-tanning routines, exfoliating and shaving about 24 hours before application gives the skin time to settle. Always follow the directions for your specific tanning product or spray-tan appointment, but avoid introducing a new exfoliating routine minutes before applying color.
Begin in a warm shower to soften dry skin and any fading self-tan. Wet the VIC Cloth completely, then move it across the body with even, controlled pressure. Spend a little more time on the areas where color tends to collect, but resist the temptation to scrub them raw. The goal is an even surface, not over-exfoliated skin.
A cotton alternative to synthetic exfoliating mitts
Many traditional self-tan exfoliating mitts are made from nylon, polyester, or other synthetic fibers. The VIC Cloth offers a reusable, 100% cotton alternative.
Made in the Netherlands with a distinctive textured weave, VIC gives you control over where and how much you exfoliate. It can be used for full-body self-tan prep, smoothing dry areas, and lifting the uneven remains of an old tan before reapplication.
No synthetic pouf, disposable scrub, or separate nylon exfoliating mitt is required. Just wet the cloth, use controlled pressure, and let the texture do the work.
The simple self-tan prep ritual
Exfoliate the body the day before applying color. Rinse thoroughly, allow your skin to settle, and follow the moisturizing instructions provided with your tanning product.
When it is time to apply your self-tanner, your skin has already been prepared. The result is a smoother canvas and a more thoughtful ritual from the very first step.
